Thankful for Family
So I spent this past weekend (September 25-27) with my cousins Eleni and Maria in Athens; what a great weekend! For starters, I had my first experience at public transportation..traveling by myself. Well, of course I would mess up. I took the wrong bus! I wanted to get on the bus going to Syntagama, but ended up on the bus that had just left Syntagama. Well, I asked the busdriver when he stopped what bus to take and lucky for me, it was the one parked directly in front of us. So, I get on the bus and spend the next 15 minutes of my life helping the busdriver with his English.lol. He found out I was from 'Ameriki' and was overjoyed that I could help him out. Anyway, I met my cousin in Syntagama Square and we got amazing gelatos (super creamy ice cream). I spent Friday night there, and Maria and I spent Saturday shopping in Athens. Believe it or not, I left the stores with only two sweaters! I was quite impressed with myself =) After my cousins helped me with my language homework (I'm so fortunate to have relatives in the country where I'm studying), Maria and I went to the cinema (we say movies, they say cinema) and saw The Ugly Truth. It was hilarious!!! The movie theatre we went to was amazing! It had shops in it along with one or two cafes. We took an escalator to the floor where our movie was showing, and get this: your ticket has an assigned seat on it! Crazy. We went to church on Sunday which was so awesome because I got to meet the Archbishop of Greece!!! He was there for the special service that happened today. Deaf people from Athens and surrounding neighborhoods came, and a husband of one of the women in the congregation signed during the service. The Archbishop gave me a blessing after I kissed his hand. What a privilege to meet him! After church, Maria and I watched 5 episodes of F`R`I`E`N`D`S. Hilarious, yet brilliant, show! Well, unfortunately I had to come back to my apartment that night and get right back into the swing of things. Fortunately, we're leaving for Crete tomorrow night and will return Monday morning!!!!!!! More blogs to come =)
