Crete!!!

So, I am in Crete! Yes, that is correct, the beautiful island of Crete. The Fall 2009 AHA group is here until Sunday, 10/4, on different excursions for our Monuments of Greece class. We are traveling around visiting different archaeological sites. Yes, I admit, all the stone ruins begin to look the same after awhile. However, I'm getting to see some amazing sites, so it's all okay. Anyway, we had an overnight ferry Wednesday night. In case you've never slept on a ferry, it's...interesting. Small, but cute cabins, and amazing frappes on the deck! My sleep was disrupted by the most annoying voices coming through the PA system...ergh. We dropped our luggage off at Hotel Olympic in Heraklion and went on our first main excursion to Knosos, then a Minoan museum, then Gortyn followed byPhaestos, and Agia Triada. (These were between Thursday and Friday). Honestly, the only thing I can say about those places is that some were temples (other villas) of the Minoans and Mycenaeans. Saturday was a trip to Tylisos, a small Minoan villa followed by a visit to an archaelogical museum. There was a fortress we got to see across the street; so amazing!!! We are now in Chania, Crete, until we leave for another museum tomorrow morning and enjoy a few hours of free time before the overnight ferry back to Athens. Chania is nothing short of GORGEOUS! Sparkling blue waters where you can see straight to the bottom. Adorable shops line the coastline; I found a handsewn pink bag for 15 euros =) Guess what?!?! Tabitha and I are officially going to Santorini this weekend, October 9-10!!!! We are taking an early morning ferry, arriving in the afternoon, and returning to Athens late Saturday night. We are staying on Oia where Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants was filmed =) Words cannot begin to express our excitement!! Miss you all!
